Teaching Activities – Dr. Brown joined the faculty of the Department of Prosthodontics at LSUSD in 1982. His first assignments were to the sophomore pre-clinical crown and bridge program. During this time he also gave several private practice principles lectures to the dental hygiene senior classes. During the 1990’s Dr. Brown was re-assigned to the senior dental clinic as an assistant clinical instructor in fixed prosthetics. As a private practitioner in his own family-practice dental clinic, he focused his teaching on the comprehensive care of patients as would be done in the private sector. This format was well received by the senior dental students and the then director of the Prosthodontics Department, Dr. Chiche, encouraged Dr. Brown to continue this teaching format. Dr. Brown has continued teaching in the senior and junior student dental clinic continuously since then. Several senior dental classes held lunch and learn sessions, having Dr. Brown discuss business principles and challenges that graduating seniors would soon be facing. The class chose the topics. Dr.Brown has given several guest presentations to local dental study clubs covering topics specific to the diagnosis and treatment of craniomandibular disorders. He also gave a guest presentation to a local study group of clinical psychologists highlighting the correlation of psychological and emotional
stress with the physical manifestation of temporomandibular disorders.
Major area of research interest – As would be surmised by the above descriptions, the area of highest interest in dental healthcare for Dr. Brown is in the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck pain. Teaming with fellow practitioner, Dr. John Dupont, Dr. Brown has
analyzed numbers of patient’s symptoms and treatment protocols to both learn from and then teach the strategies to help with solving the problems of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). This clinical research has been the genesis of several published research articles. Dr. Brown was invited to join the Dental Advisor research group as a clinical research consultant. This Michigan based group publishes a quarterly magazine reviewing various dental materials. It offers the results of both
laboratory testing as well as clinical use trials of all modes of materials and equipment used in today’s modern dental practice. Dr. Brown is the only dentist from Louisiana acting in this research role.
Professional Organizations – Participation in professional organizations is an important part of Dr. Brown’s
career. Interest in the care for TMD and other head and neck disorders has led Dr. Brown to be a member of The American Academy of Craniofacial Pain since 1988. He has attained fellow-eligible status in that organization. He joined The American Academy of Pain Management, attaining diplomat status. Dr. Brown was also inducted into The Pierre Fauchard Honor Academy. For over 20 years, Dr. Brown has been at the leadership level of both the Louisiana Dental Association and the New Orleans Dental Association. He has served on the board of directors of both organizations as well as a variety of committee chairs. Currently, he acts as LDA liaison to the Louisiana State
Board of Dentistry. Dr. Brown has also served The LSUSD Alumni Association sitting on the board of directors for three years.
Public service – Providing comprehensive dental care has been and will always be the passion
that drives Dr. Brown. Over 25 years ago, Dr. Brown established a multi-specialty comprehensive care dental clinic in New Orleans; one of the first of its kind. This clinic brought the various dental specialties together under one roof to provide a coordinated efficient model of comprehensive dental
treatment for patients. As the senior partner and general dentist of the team, Dr. Brown orchestrated the various modalities of care rendered by the associated specialists. This practice continues today and has served as a model for other dental practices. This group practice has always strived to also assist the underprivileged by providing free dental care to graduates of the addiction intervention programs of Covenant House; and complete dental care to patients coming from the Donated Dental Service. Each year for the NODA Children’s Dental Health
Month, the practice has adopted an elementary school class for dental screening and healthcare education.

“I consider myself to be extremely fortunate because my ‘job’ simply entails doing what I love. I’ve been around the field of dentistry all my life, with a grandfather, aunt and uncle in the industry. I knew way back that I wanted to be a part of it as well.”
